Three-hour performance

Performing for Exi(s)t 2017: Tomorrow as We Know It, Galeri Nasional Indonesia, Jakarta

National Gallery of Indonesia, Jakarta

I Beg, I Promise is a gentle and light performance with a material close to Indonesian culture: the kapok. Traditionally, it is a popular bed and pillow stuffings in rural areas, often associated with the image of homely warmth. Accompanying jute sacks of kapok, the artist dressed in similar color, almost blending herself with her objects.

The performance started out soft but tension was apparent when she almost violently disembowelled the jute sacks, resulting in a sublime image of floating kapoks. Whilst romantic, it was also labourous. Intended with a repeated epilogue that presented the female performing body blowing the kapok, further emphasizing their lightness. I Beg, I Promise is afterall about weight, physically and mentally as she lets the heaviness of her mind off and gently gusts the intimate material with her every single breath.
